The Orb of Truth Book Synopsis:

In the hundreds of years since the Holy City disappeared, darkness has fallen over the land. Human kingdoms have seized control of the realm, scattering the other races into hiding.

Bridazak, a skilled thief, and his friends, a Dwarf and a fellow Ordakian, have dared to remain within the human communities and live relatively quiet lives, until they discover a mysterious, magical artifact. The three friends are thrust into an adventure that will challenge their faith, their purpose, and their destiny as they chase a forgotten and lost prophecy across the realm of Ruauck-El, where they hope to discover the origins of the strange item and their place in its history.

An ancient, unknown enemy threatens the completion of their journey at every turn. Bridazak is about to face the biggest adventure of his life, one that may change the known realm, and answer the questions he has carried all his life. Will they unlock the truth?

About the Author:

Brae Wyckoff was born and raised in San Diego, CA and is working toward a Psychology degree. He has been married to his beautiful wife, Jill, for 20 years, and they have three children; Tommy, Michelle, and Brittany. He has a beautiful grandson named Avery. Brae has been an avid gamer since 1985. His passion for mysterious realms and the supernatural inspired him to write The Orb of Truth, the first in a series of fantasy action adventures. Brae describes The Orb of Truth as a cross between the Lord of the Rings and the Wizard of OZ where you will be swept away into a magical land of Dwarves, Elves, and Halflings.

Ambrosia Arts: So when was the first moment you realized that writing was going to be a career?

Brae Wyckoff : It was always the dream to be an author in my life but it just never seemed possible.

It was two years ago that I lost my job suddenly and I decided to make that leap of faith and go full-time into writing and getting my book published.

I believe it is my destiny and me losing my job was not a bad thing.

Ambrosia Arts : How did this story come to you?

Brae Wyckoff: I have been working on The Orb of Truth for over twenty years but the pieces never seem to fit and I was only getting half way through it and then shelving the book in frustration.

The story was there from my days of gaming Dungeons and Dragons but the overall theme came to me after I lost my job. I asked myself, "What is your purpose in life? Do I matter?" These questions are what prompted the fulfillment of The Orb of Truth by taking the characters through it. I would say the story was divinely orchestrated.

Ambrosia Arts: Aside from this series do you have any other projects in the works now?

Brae Wyckoff : In regards to writing projects, I have one in the hopper that correlates to a couple characters from the book series. They are becoming fan favorites with their humorous banter...it is Lester and Ross! They are magically animated thieves tools that are brothers...a kind of Laurel and Hardy mix.

My intention is to write a back story on how they were created and give it away for FREE on Amazon. I have the story outlined and I will start writing it soon.

My hand is in so many things outside of writing. I host my own blog talk radio show called Broadcast Muse where I interview amazing people around the world such as authors, celebrities, and Christian leaders.

My wife and I also have a website where we report on the miracles happening around the world. It is called The Greater News. (www.thegreaternews.com) and we also have a Facebook page. We reach thousands of people and have had millions of page views.

Besides this I also started my own publishing company called LR Publishing. The reason I did this was that it is near impossible to get a publisher these days. I'm a self-starter and I make things happen.

Ambrosia Arts: That's great. You sound like a very busy man. What inspires you to write day to day?

Brae Wyckoff: It is something that burns inside. The story wants to be free and if I don't write it then I lose sleep. In essence, the world that I have created becomes a part of me and sometimes can be difficult to separate reality from fiction.

I'm inspired by so many things beyond just what burns inside of me. I'm inspired by life itself, by creation, by The Bible and God's Word, by friends and family, by others victories in life when they are beat up but they don't give up, and also hearing the great reviews coming in from readers.

Ambrosia Arts: What has been your biggest trial in publishing outside of writing?

Brae Wyckoff : This is my take on the publishing world. The big houses are not taking anyone unless you are somebody of importance because there is too much risk for them. Agents are not taking new clients as there is too much risk for them also.

Now for those who do get an agent and a publishing house then you need to market yourself as they do limited marketing for you. How does this make any sense? They want the author to do all the work and they reap the benefit of sales.

Indie Authors are taking control of their destiny by self-publishing now that there are options available. You need to market yourself and you get all the profit without forking it over to the agent and publisher.

The biggest concern for any author should be professionalism. Your book needs to be professionally edited and your book cover needs to be designed by someone who knows what they are doing. Many authors are skimping in these areas and it will affect their sales tremendously and result in negative reviews on Amazon.

We need to put our best out there for readers!

I want to thank you Jacquelynn for the wonderful interview.

I also want to thank all of my fans who have joined the adventure and are embracing the characters. You will NOT be disappointed with the sequel, The Dragon God, coming out later this year. I'm really excited to get it released and my editor and I are working hard to make it the best reading experience for you.

Blessings everyone!

EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK:
There was an alley to the right. Too small for the car, or could he follow? Would it be a dead end and he’d have me cornered? It was my only chance. I lunged for its opening. My knee gave as my foot twisted off the curb sending me stumbling forward. My arms thrust out instinctively. I landed snapping my wrist back. They hadn’t softened the blow to my face as I hit the cold wet concrete. Blood spattered from my nose and mouth. My lungs were too fatigued to even muster a scream. Instead this sickened pathetic whimper gurgled out through the stream of blood. As I lay there, trying to muster enough will to get up, the tires squealed to a stop right next to me. My ears rang in a high-pitched echo combined with the sound of my blood rushing in my ears. “Anna!” My whole body shook violently when I heard a rough baritone voice scream my name in an intense rage. There was no way I could run from him anymore. Would I die here? Would he take me somewhere else to prolong my suffering? How long would it take? Another dark thought. Is this what Neesa and her mother had seen? Futilely my eyes closed. If I had to be conscious, I refused to watch my own death. “Anna! Look at me!” One hand held onto my shoulder turning me slowly as another hand carefully took a hold of my chin, tilting it up and making me cough on my own blood. “No.” Worthlessly defiant. I gurgled coughing on the blood filling my mouth relentlessly. “Alright. Just hang on. I’m going to move you, okay,” his voice filled with laughter. Though weak and painful, it flooded with the sound of relief. “No!” The scream was weak and sprayed blood as I spoke. My hand shot up defensively swiping at his face to try to push him away from me. The hand at my chin released to take my wrist gently.
