Eva Lefoy - Sweet Cravings - Guest spotting What I have learned in the publishing industry

I’m a former newspaper reporter from a small town on the west coast. I know deadlines. I can do production. In the newspaper world it’s all hurry, hurry, hurry, now, now, now.

In publishing, the work flow can sort of be the opposite. It’s more akin to hurry-up-and-wait. You write your piece and submit it and you … wait. Then after they accept it, you … wait for an editor to be assigned. You wait for a cover. You wait for a release date. Etc.

The book publishing process is a whole different animal!

What’s fun about it though is all the great people you “meet.” I say “meet” because unless you go to a conference, you mostly meet people online. But they’re generally pretty terrific. Since I’ve been in the Decadent Publishing family I’ve had people I’d just met crit my work and be very generous with their time. And this is for someone that just showed up one day in their group and said “hi!”

Authors have also been very generous with their personal space – their blogs. Promo opportunities, and shares and all kinds of stuff. I feel very lucky to have met all of them for sure!

Book publishing is really more of a community.

By the way I’m happy to announce I’m the newest blogger at Silken Sheets & Seduction and we will be doing a Summer Seduction blog tour with giveaways August 14 – 21st so check us out!

Riding the waves of a sugar high, Violet Cunningham seduces the town’s newest pastry chef, slathering him with whipped cream in his secret kitchen. But all that is made of sugar melts, and her brazenness vanishes soon after their tryst, leaving her battling old insecurities about her waistline and appetites, courtesy of her mother. Positive she’s only made a fool of herself, she’s mortified when her boss sends her back to sexy Chef Max’s kitchen and into the proverbial frying pan. After a red-hot date, her chef disappears, and Violet’s emotions simmer to a boil, forcing her to confront the awful truth: there’s more to life than pastry.

Excerpt:

“You hungry, sweetheart?” His hot gaze left a trail on my skin and heated through more than one layer of fabric. The innuendo in his voice was unmistakable. He tucked a stray hair behind my ear with a super-warm finger whose touch promised tingling satisfaction. I held my breath and nodded. “For what?” he whispered.

I wanted to whimper. Wanted to melt right there on my kitchen floor. I’m good at bravado—up to a certain point—but being interrogated, even by a hottie, or especially by a hottie, turns me shy real quick. And Max’s stare-right-through-me intensity made me very shy, very quick. Made it hard to say that one little word…the one I so badly wanted to say: You. I opened my mouth but he’d started talking again.

“You see, I know all about hungers. About appetites.” He circled me slowly. Like a tiger using its steamy breath to tenderize its next meal. “And how to satisfy them.”

Maybe so. But surely I must come off as a rather odd case? I mean, I practically raped a pastry chef at a chamber of commerce event! Was there even help for people like me? Concern and embarrassment had me chewing my lower lip. I wanted badly to look away from his gaze—look anywhere but into his chocolate-drizzled eyes. But as if he could read my thoughts, he placed a finger under my chin and held me captive with that simple touch.

“All people have appetites,” he stated. “Your appetites, I know how to feed.” He smiled, and the corners of his eyes crinkled. “I will enjoy feeding them. If you will let me.”

I tried to hide a gulp. He sounded sincere. But how could it be? No man had ever made me such an outrageous offer. I had half a mind to put up a hand and stop him right there. But wasn’t this what I truly wanted? Or would I rather stay within the safe bounds of the pastry goal lines forever and watch my waistband expand? Alone? God. I could hear my mother’s voice…. You’ll never get married with those eating habits, Violet. No man will ever want you. Besides, bigger women can’t get pregnant very easily.

As if he could hear my thoughts, he said, “Even if you think some of your hungers are bad…or wrong.” He pressed a gentle kiss to the tip of my nose. “I assure you they are not. They are perfectly normal.” His arm slid around my back and pulled me close, hip to hip. My sex clenched in anticipation. “All of them.”

Excerpt:

‘I feel safe here.’ She waved a hand around to encompass the bookstore. ‘You make me feel safe. Despite your attitude, I don’t believe you would hurt me.’ Claire flushed such a sweet shade of pink as she spoke, her hazel gaze roaming the store as she looked everywhere but at him.

Safe. She thought she was safe with him. That he wouldn’t hurt her. Evan sat in stunned silence for the briefest moment before a red tide of fury suffused his body. Fury at Marianne for dying and leaving him alone when she had been the centre of his life. Fury at Claire for tempting him and reviving desires that he’d believed were dead and buried with his love. Fury at himself for being so damned foolish and afraid in the face of his temptation. In that moment, he knew himself for a coward and he snapped.

‘Safe. You think you’re safe with me?’ he all but sneered at her. ‘You know nothing.’ He spit the words at Claire as he leant, forward his hands clenched into fists on his knees. She shrank away from him, pushing so far back into the leather club chair her feet no longer touched the floor. Her eyes were wide with shock and the beginnings of fear. Shame crawled over his skin and he reached for self-control, only to lose it all over again when her small, white teeth bit into her trembling lower lip.

‘Damn you!’ He slammed a fist down on the arm of his chair, causing her to jump at the violence of his action. ‘You are anything but safe with me. Every time you walk through that door all I can think about is bending you over my lap and spanking that pretty little ass until it is shiny, red, and stinging. Then fucking you from behind so that the sting feeds the orgasm I give you. I fantasise about binding you and whipping those sweet little tits, your pussy, and your ass. Marking you everywhere so that each time you look in the mirror you remember me and how I put them there, and then beg me to put more on you when they heal. I want to drench you in my come, fuck you in every goddamn hole, and make you scream until you can’t speak.’

As the words died on his lips, he dragged in a breath and took Claire in, really saw her now that the apex of his anger had passed somewhat. She was glassy-eyed and panting. The knuckles of her slim, elegant fingers were white and she gripped the arms of her chair as if her life depended on it. She looked like she was having a panic attack.

Fear and shame overrode his anger and he lurched forward, coming around and sitting on the table before her. He took her face between his palms. She was so tiny, his hands seems to swallow her up.

‘Claire.’ He spoke softly, soothingly, as he rubbed his thumb over her cheeks. ‘Claire, please. Look at me.’

She turned just a fraction, closing her eyes and refusing to look at him. Her motion brought his thumb to rest on her lower lip. Quickly, so quickly he almost missed it, she licked his thumb. It was the barest touch, but the sight of her pink tongue against his skin was more than he could take. What control remained to him was lost.

‘Damn you,’ he repeated, but this time it was the hoarse whisper of a drowning man. ‘Suck it,’ he demanded as he thrust his thumb between her full, rosy lips. She obeyed instantly, enveloping the digit in wet, velvet heat. A shudder coursed through him at the silken feel of her mouth on his skin. She sucked gently in slow draws that he felt all the way to his cock, which surged violently to life.

With his other hand he untied the bow that held the halter of her dress together and yanked the barrier from her body so that it pooled at her waist in a lake of red silk. She faltered briefly, but continued to suck on his thumb as he squeezed her breast, massaging and shaping it in his large palm. She was small, tiny even; the entire globe barely filled his palm, but his mouth watered to taste her. He pulled his thumb from her mouth and trailed damp circles around each nipple before leaning down to suck the puckered tips into his mouth. He sucked hard, eliciting a cry of pained pleasure from her as she arched into his mouth.

He squeezed and pulled, sucked and bit at her nipples furiously, his mind blank except for the driving urge to mark her, claim her. Only when they were red and swollen, jutting out from the cream of her skin, did he leave her breasts. But he was far from done with her. He yanked her hips forward and roughly pushed the skirt of her dress up to her hips. She wore a brief, black silk thong which disappeared in a savage yank as he tore it from her. The fragile elastic snapped as easily as if it were an errant thread. He dropped the offending silk to the floor and threw her legs over the arms of the chair so that she was spread and open to him.

He didn’t stop to appreciate the sight she made, though the memory would haunt him later. Her eyes were half-closed and glazed with desire. Her rosy lips were parted and damp from her tongue. Her small, tight breasts were swollen and tipped with hard, berry-red pebbles from his earlier feasting. The scarlet silk pooled at her waist, framing and showcasing her plump hips and drenched pussy. The damp curls were trimmed close, just a shade darker than the honeyed brown of her tousled hair. No, in that moment, he only took in the sandpaper dryness of his throat and the need to taste her.

M.C.V Egan!!!!

M. C. V. Egan is the chosen pen name for Maria Catalina Egan, author of The Bridge of Deaths. Originally from Mexico City, Mexico; M.C.V. Egan has lived in various parts of the USA as well as France and Sweden. She is fluent in four languages; Spanish, French, Swedish and English.

Maria Catalina Egan is married and has one son, who together with their five pound Chihuahua make her feel like a fulltime mother.   Although she would not call herself an Astrologer she has taken many classes and taught a few beginner classes in Astrology. This is one of her many past times when she is not writing or researching.

The Bridge of Deaths is based on the events surrounding a 1939 Plane crash in Denmark. My grandfather Cesar Agustin Castillo was the first body removed from the crash. The book explores through fictional characters the events surrounding the crash and how the men involved; both those who died and others may not have really been who they seemed.

In an era rife with intrigue The Bridge of Deaths takes the reader through some very well-known and some likely to be unknown incidents in a pre-World War II world.

The story is woven with a fictional narrative with endearing characters that make the reader feel like part of a small group of people investigating the plane crash.

The research for The Bridge of Deaths ranged from the traditional; Archives, Newspaper microfilms, interviews and history books to the most unusual world of Psychics; by use of psychometry and past life regressions.

The book has an appeal to a variety of readers and the information is presented in a way that the reader taps into his/her inner detective.

·        What book are you reading now?
I just finished reading IN THE MATTER OF NIKOLAS TESLA; A Romance of the Mind by Anthony Flacco. It is an amazing book and I enjoyed it very much.
I write a lot and research so I do not read as much as many people on Goodreads or Facebook, I devoured books when I was younger, but these days I write and research far more than I read.

·        Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

Several in the Indie crowd; I am fascinated by the writing style of Christoph Fischer as well as his choice of subjects. In Paulette Mahurin I have found an amazing depth in characterization. Amelia E. Curzon has a timeless tale that took me back to Rudyard Kipling and Pavarti K. Tyler’s mix of excitement whilst talking social issues enthralls me.

·        What are your current projects?
I swore I would never work on more than one project at a time but as it turns out I do have four going at once these days. Two works of fiction and two of fact so it is an interesting blend and it will be nice to see which is ready first.

·        Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.

I feel most fortunate but I do think that of you ask for help you will find it, especially in the Indie writers community.
Amongst those who have helped me I can most notably mention many of the archivists that helped me with my research of The Bridge of Deaths; that was not the only reason that I dedicated my book to them, but it was certainly one of the reasons.
After the book came out the reviewer groups, most especially WaAR, Wanda’s amazing Amazon   Reviewers are a source of extraordinary support.

·        If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
I am doing it again and changing a lot including title of a book I went through a great deal to expose before it hit a crazy brick wall! Change is good and everyone in any creative field should be open and happy to be willing to grow and change.
I do not however believe in regret, just growth so I cannot ponder on what I would change, I can simply do it different the next time around.
Nothing is in stone and revised editions come out all the time. I think all writers should be open to change and go with the flow.
·        Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
I love to convey my thoughts real or imaginary ideas. I started writing very young but I did not pursue the whole publishing angle, I had other things to experience first.
I left the country of my birth Mexico when I was young and started writing long detailed letters, and I do believe that is when my writing began.

·        Can you share a little of your current work with us?
As I said I have several projects on and I do not like to talk about what I am working on until it is done, for a number of reasons:
 a) You can talk a book to death.
 b) Work morphs, grows and changes so how I describe a book may not be the finished product.
c) Cagey paranoia that someone else will write the same book.
·        Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Sometimes just getting the time to do it as marketing takes so much time and then there is that other super important aspect of my life that is time consuming, MOTHERHOOD!

·        Who are your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
My all-time favorites range from W. Sommerset Maugham, I love the way he weaves a story, the depth of his characters and his subjects fascinate me. I have read all of his books and I am thrilled when I find the movies, like Up at The Villa with Sean Penn and Kristin Scott Thomas.
Even the old movies like The Razor’s Edge, the books are of course always better. On a modern note I am a great fan of Nick Hornby; I mean the first line of Juliette Naked males you want to laugh so hard and pee your pants.  “They had flown from England to Minneapolis to look at a toilet.” You just know that these music fans are about to take you for quite a ride or John Irving’s The Water Method Man? You just know you are in for a treat and relate to the doctor’s office while laughing like mad at the scene in the doctor’s office.
·        Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?
I did for The Bridge of Deaths; I travelled several times to England, Denmark, and Mexico and as I used psychics and past live regressions one could well say that I also travelled to the esoteric and the parapsychological.

·        Who designed the covers?
I guided the designer in exactly what I wanted, and then they added their expertise at AuthorHouse.
·        What was the hardest part of writing your book?
The hardest part was having the patience to find the information I needed and being allowed to use certain files. It could be very frustrating, especially when it came to families that would open up and share and then decide perhaps it was not in their best interest to rattle their family’s skeletons in the closet.

·        Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
I learned so much it would be impossible to go into great detail. I learned about aircraft and in particular the Lockheed Electra 10A. I learned that in order to get the full story it is best to research even the most credited and respected sources can and do have hidden agendas.
I learned that the Lobby and special interest groups in the 1930s in England and the USA in regards to the Palestinian Territories and Oil were as complex and organized as they are today.
·        Do you have any advice for other writers?
Be careful to follow the thread of your story in a way that is precise. Keep your character’s straight it so easy to make mistakes in the excitement of creating.
Remember that your voice is unique and your perspective in a story will also be YOURS so grab a pen, a key board and weave your stories.

·        Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Thank-you! I would like to thank every reader for choosing to read my book. I love the readers that contact me and ask questions, it is such fun.

About the Author

The Author Amelia Mah is a 20 something snarky, sarcastic and cynical author who has a very popular blog of how she sees the world from the point of view of a modern teenage vampire Following the success of her first book "FANGS RULE A girls guide to being a vampire" she had now expanded the idea of life as a teenage vampire into a full novel Amelia has given her avatar her own name so you can see the world first hand from a very bored teenage vampire that has been forced to remain a teenager for far too long She may have very good teeth and the ability to hang from ceilings but life is far from easy. Today's world is difficult for everyone, especially teenagers. They face the stresses of school, deciding whom to date, and the biggie of sex, just to name a few. Imagine all of those things ten times worse, and you might get an idea of what it's like being a living, breathing teenage vampire. At last, the world can read about the life of a girl with good teeth, her problems with strong sunlight that gave her spots, and the sunblock that made her hair go yucky and produced more spots. Yes, sunlight was dangerous, as she could be the first teenager in history to die from terminal acne! In her everyday life, older vampires expected her to walk about at night in the traditional female uniform, a see-through, 18th-century nightdress, without undies! Well, this female vampire knew why the cold winds blowing along the corridors were called, "male winds," so she wore her see-through nightdress over jeans and a very thick jumper. To be sure that people would still know she was a vampire, the jumper had a very large, pink bat on it. And as to guys, well, it was normal for a girl to dream about guys; she just wished the dreams could have involved chocolates and holding hands, not leaping out at someone, ripping off his shirt, and demanding to know what blood type he was (at least not on the first date).

FANGS RULE

A self help guide by Amy Mah (Vampire) for teenage vampire girls, the guide is fully illustrated by manga Artist Heby and is written in an easy to follow A - Z format explaining everything a teenage vampire girl would need to know about living life as a modern Vampire. What is fashionable to wear when eating out? Fang maintenance & how to keep your claws sharp. Should you let a boy bite you on the first date? Easy to understand clear advice is given to every day problems Example: When you get an urge to bite: We all get those normal urges to bite things, and I must point out it is very normal, Claws are all well and good in a fight but a bite gives the extra advantage of getting a refreshing drink at the same time. Lots of girls worry about showing their Fangs in public believing that to show your fangs is rude, but don't be shy they can be a girls greatest asset (ok second greatest asset) if a boy is being rude to you, don't just snarl at him, just bite him! You are a vampire why do you think you have sharp teeth if not for sinking them into a boy that is being rude to you.
